Its a pity when you can think of nothing good to say about player.
Involved in corruption allegations never did too much on the field. I suppose it wasn't his fault that SA didn't have any decent around at the time.
Anyway good luck for the future Nicky.

I think you are right John, sadly amongst SA and overseas fans, the best reaction his retirement has provoked is indifference - nobody is too sad or worried to see him go.

Will this be a mirror image of Ashley Giles' retirement (or am I just being naughty?)

Top 5 spinners so far this season (3 domestic first class games)

Boje: 17 wickets, average 21:29
Henderson: 17 wickets, @26.88
Harris: 16 wickets, @26.68
Botha: 14 wickets, @28.50
Tshabalala: 6 wickets, @ 29.50 (and I think he took a 5-fer in the last match)

I reckon these stats prove our spinners are performing...As the top 4 wicket-takers, are all spinners...

But, this thread is about Bodgy...So, the news coming through the grapevine, is that there is something else behind Bodge's retirement...

Or perhaps it shows that the spinners are finally beginning to make their mark in SA cricket?

Someone had to play. He was out of his depth thru no fault of his own. Always tried and always struggled. The buisness of corruption allegations didn't help.

Yeaaah..

I have always been an optimist...bright-side-of-life...look-for-the- positive type.

I can not and will not believe that ANY international cricketer would go out on a field and DELIBERATELY play bad. I think they all give their best.

Anyhow...I found this article by Neil Manthorp yesterday, and has been posted in cricinfo too...and I agree:

Boje always seemed to try his best - and his best was pretty good. I said a while back that the selectors really screwed around with Adams, treating him as badly as they've now done to Boje.

This time Adams is on the sweet end - and, in this reversal of fortunes, he is undeserving. So they've treated both their best spin options badly enough to have harmed them both while harming themselves.

I don't care for the predictable hints (ref. dippenaar) in Boje's attack on selection but SA selection regarding spin is decidedly dodgy.

I really wish Boje well - i think he's earned better than what he's got.
