Thing is, Prince has scored more runs in the last calendar year for SA than any other batsman. granted, he might not score them at a canter. But in the same way that you need a Chanderpaul to bat through the innings, Prince can play a role of keeping his wicket intact while his partner goes for the runs.

Unless SA do a Mark Butcher, and don't play him at all!

Prince is a Test match player. Kallis can keep his wicket, Kallis is a much better batsmen. One day teams is about shot makers, yes there is a place for the likes of Prince but SA don't particularly need him. If his one day form was good yes include him but it isn't.
I don't think its a huge mistake including him but if Kallis gets an injury Prince has shown no signs he will take over the role.

I dunno....

Though the composition of your team will vary slightly from test to ODIs, you need to have a nucleus around which to form your team. And I think it would be a mistake for SA to go into their ODIs without their top run-scorer for 2006!

I certainly don't think there is space for both and given the choice it has to be kallis. however, i think prince has shown at various times that he can keep his wicket and even up the rr (slightly) as is required. i think he is the only replacement for kallis and he'd be a good one. but if what you're basically saying is that he is not kallis - no arguement here!
