A strong character required

Although the Proteas coach and captain had their contracts renewed, it seems like there was a cry for the curtailing of Smith's powers.

The following from an "insider" : "We all know Graeme calls the shots".... "As captain on the field, he does a good job but he wants to say too much off the field and wants to put his stamp on matters. This could be a department that he should keep out of."

So, a team manager is going to be appointed. And according to CSA: "The team manager must provide leadership qualities that will enhance the team and assist the captain and coach on matters such as mental toughness, discipline and public affairs."

Thus, a strong character required imo, as Smith is one himself. Self-confident and outspoken and that: you-can-stand-me-up-at-the-gates-of-hell-but-I-wont-back-down attitude. (apologies to Tom Petty) And we all know where the last person ended up who matched Smith in this department.

Was this the right decision to renew both their contracts?
Can a Team Manager really help Smith to keep his foot out of his mouth?
Is this "Team Manager" just another title for a psychologist cum public relations officer?
What is left for the coach to do...?
