Early movements... The domestic season is still about 4 months away, but we are already seeing some interesting moves on the Franchise scene. Davy Jacobs (WAT interviewee) and previous Eagle (Free State/Griquas), will be available for the Warriors (Eastern Cape) for the 2007/2008 season. He is currently playing in Dublin, Ireland. Still a hard-hitting batsman, still a good keeper Justin Kemp, Protea and previous Titan has moved to the snake pit. (Cape Cobras) Vaughan van Jaarsveld is, according to reports, considering a Kolpak deal. Can still play for his SA franchise, the Lions though. At 22 he is young and can still play for SA in 4 years time...

Interesting moves... Seems like the Cobras aren't happy with only Justin Kemp and Mark Boucher...Now they want to sink their fangs into Justin Langer or Marvan Atapattu. (News24.com)" Cobras coach Shukri Conrad confirmed on Monday that the union was interested in the services of one of the two experienced internationals. Conrad said he had had discussions with Langer a few months ago to find out whether he would be interested in playing for the Cobras. "He said he would like to play in South Africa, and particularly in the Western Cape, but he needed time to decide whether he had the necessary motivation. "He had retired from international cricket and wanted to discuss things with his family before make a decision," Conrad said. Atapattu's representatives are in discussions with the Cobras, but at this stage it seems like he may be too expensive for the Cape Franchise. 2 Seasons ago the Cobras also tried out Ian Harvey, but he was a major flop there and they did not renew his contract for the second season.

The Cobras may have gained Kemp and Boucher (and perhaps Langer), but Quinton Friend has left the Cape for Durban. Friend is a fast bowler (and the Dolphins can do with another one), and has taken 95 wickets in 32 first class games. So this then, is the new-look Dolphins squad for 2007/2008: Ahmed Amla (captain), Yusuf Abdullah, Dale Benkenstein, Quinton Friend, Robert Frylinck, Ugasen Govender, Imraan Khan, Lance Klusener, Johann Louw, Saidi Mhlongo, Tyron Pillay, Darryn Smit, Kyle Smit, Morne van Vuuren, Doug Watson. CSA contracted players: Hashim Amla, Andrew Hall, Shaun Pollock A word on young fast bowler Ugasen Govender. He is currently attending a 14-day elite coaching programme (Dennis Lillee's fast bowling acadamy) at the WACA in Perth. Dolphins team has a good, solid look to it this season. Lets hope they deliver.
