| 1,000 International wickets! I would just like to give my personal congratulations to Murali upon getting to 1,000 international wickets today. He is the first person ever to achieve this feet and long may his wicket taking continue. BBC Link here. |

| I think it is possible but if we say it would take him 8 years (1,000 wickets in 16 years divided by two!) to get another 500 then he would be 41 and I don't think at this level today we would see this. Also he is talking of retirement after the 2007 world cup.

| Murali wants a winning goodbye... Muttiah Muralitharan has said he will be doubly determined for Sri Lanka to win the upcoming third test as the match, which starts at Nottingham's Trent Bridge ground on Friday, is set to be his final test appearance in England. Murali's 34 now, and he'll be nearing 40 when Sri Lanka tour England again in 2011. "I am very determined to win at Nottingham and go out in England on a high," Murali said in his column on Bigstarcricket.com And here I was thinking I'd be sitting on my stoep in a rocking chair, 40 years from now, and Murali'd still be bowling. Muralitharan has taken 624 wickets in 105 Tests at an average of 22.28, a tally that also includes 52 hauls of five or more wickets in an innings. I think it'll be hard for me to imagine a Sri Lankan team without him. |

| And may I (belatedly), add another record where Murali had a hand in... A new world record was established by the combination of Mahela Jayawardene and Murali in the recent England series. Mahela caught Strauss of Murli in the first test. That was his 52nd catch he had held of Murali's bowling, bettering Mark Taylor's 51 catches off Shane Warne. Their new record now is 57 catches in 37 matches. |
