Jayasuriya Retires

Sanath Jayasuriya has announced his retirement from test cricket. Link here.

I think this is the right choice considering the amount of injuries he's had in the past year. Clearly he wants the best chance to perform in the World Cup.

Jayasuriya has played in the first two test matches against Sri Lanka in the series that is going currently. Before that he played in the series against Bangladesh.

Although he had missed a few games prior to these with a dislocated shoulder and other injuries.

Only Attapattu remains from the 'golden age' of batsmen. He never really achieved his true potential in terms of holding down centuries etc...

But when on song he was damn fine.

Jayasuria has played a massive part in Sri Lankan cricket history. He will always be remembered for his world cup exploits but personally i will never forget that amazing innings at Oval in 1998 when he scored 213.Wonderful entertainment.

Jayasuriya, one of Srilanka's finest cricketers has decided to retire from test cricket. Too bad, his shoulder injury forced him to retire from the longer version of the game. If he didn't have any injury, I'm sure he would have continued playing both forms of the game for another couple of years. But, now, he's not the batsman that he used to be in the late '90s. Especially the knocks of 340 against India and 213 against England were special. Now that he's retired, Srilanka dont seem to have good opening batsmen. Atapattu is also injured and there's nobody other than Tharanga.

Injury ends Jayasuriya's Test career

Quote:
Sanath Jayasuriya's Test career been ended on a painful note after dislocating his right thumb during the second Test against Pakistan at Kandy. He also needed several stitches after splitting the webbing when he attempted to catch Imran Farhat in the gully during the morning session of the second day.

"It looks like he will be out for at least four weeks," Tommy Simsek, the Sri Lankan team's physiotherapist, told reporters after returning from the Kandy Central Hospital. "There's also a dislocation near the joint. It is very unlikely he will take any further part in the Test."

Just another cross to add to the list of injuries he's had. He seems to get no luck with injuries. I just hope he can continue till the World Cup and give one last blast-from-the-past so to speak.

One of the all time greats - lucky enough to see him dismantle the Aussies at taunton, great memories. Will be missed from the test arena.

Afridi joins Jaysuria. Untill World Cup at least. I think big hitters are sick and tired of Test cricket. BORING to a lot of big hittters like Afridi and JAysuria. Thats why we should start 20/20 cricket some day for these cricketers
