Mahela Jayawardena - World Record???

Well what a knock from Mahela against South Africa. He played brilliantly. Finaly he's showing what he's capable of.
He's been in great form in recent months, hope he continues.

My question is, do you guys reckon he deserve to have gotten the world record held by Lara. I watched prety much every single bowl that he faced, and he did not give any chances at all. It was a near perefect inning. I didn't see Lara's great knock against Engalnd, but was his innings chanceless as Mahela's was?

If you play that well, you deserve a high score. Lara's knock was what you'd expect out of him. Effortless, blugeoning strokes and terrific back foot drives. A lot of calculated enterprise from there, and then making bowlers look like slaves. Though it must be said, he made 400 not out on a road. Jaywardene's wasn't.

Congratulations to Jayawardene as he looks like he'll live up to his potential. Perhaps it's Lara's divine right to hold that record though...

Yes it's always great to get a good knock on thr road. But I believe at the time Engalnd test team wasn't that great.

Actually it was quite possibly better than it is today, on the bowling front anyhow. Harmison was on fire in that series, Flintoff wasn't too shabby, and Simon Jones discovered that he could bowl.

Hondo, not great, they had just beaten the West Indies 3-0 in the Caribean, Harmison ws taking wickets for fun and the next summer the same team would be New Zealand and West Indies with white washes. They were a better team than they are today..

Actually, I just checked Lara's record and he got his record playing at home. He wasn't on the road.
