The wrong Nuwan

I cannot understand why the Sri Lankan selectors don't seem to like Nuwan Zoysa, who in my opinion is a very good pace bowler in both forms of the game but simply has not had the opportunity to prove himself due to either injury or selection bias. I think they should have chosen him in place of the other Nuwan - Kulasekara - for the World Cup squad. Oh, I know that Kulasekara can bat a bit, but Zoysa too has thrown his bat around successfully in the past. The bottom line is that Zoysa is the much better bowler and I feel that Kulashekara will become the weak link in SL's bowling attack if chosed to play. Moreover, Zoysa has a looming presence that can intimidate the opposition batsmen - an advantage that is often lacking in subcontinental bowlers. After all, psychology is an integral part of today's cricket, particularly the ODI game.

With you 100% on this.

In my opinion, apart from Malinga, Zoysa is the only other bowler who has been good enough to support Vaas on attack. I understand that he has been a bit unlucky with injuries, but if he is fully fit right now, I don't see why he hasn't made any sort of a comeback into the main eleven. Especially at the expense of the pedestrian Kulasekra and the under achieving Fernando.

He is fully fit right now. During the third ODI against India, he was just sitting on the bench twiddling his thumbs and the commentator confirmed that there was nothing wrong with his fitness and wondered specifically why Kulasekara was chosen ahead of him. Has Zoysa offended someone in the SL heirarchy?

Exclamation

His fielding is not good at all. That's why he can't enter the team. I feel sorry for him but that's the realty.

I have seen him field and he certainly is not that bad. Moreover, Dilhara Fernando seems to be having a few back problems and so even now it is not too late to call in Zoysa.

Yeah, always though Zoysa was overlooked, by the way, whatever happened to Dinusha Fernando?

See what I mean? Malinga is going to miss two important matches - against New Zealand and Australia - because of injury and Sri Lanka have to replace him with Maharoof, irrespective of his form. Having Zoysa would have given them more flexibility.

Well that said, Maharoof is no mug himself, plus he has more to offer with the bat.

Sure, but being conventional, he will not have the same psychological effect as the crazy Malinga would have done on the hardened teams from down-under.
