Maharoof as a genuine all rounder?

Maharoof seems to be improving with the bat and might put up a case to be considered as a genuine all-rounder, particulalry at ODI level. His 69 today helped Sri Lanka to a respectable total. I believe that every ODI (and probably test) team needs a pace-bowling all-rounder at No:7. Russell Arnold did a good job thus far in that position, but he is 33+ and a spinner; I think if Maharoof's batting improves enough to let him in regularly at No:7 for ODIs, it will give SL greater bowling flexibility on wickets that do not support spin much.

I wouldn't consider him to be a genuine all-rounder, he wouldn't be able to get in the team with only one of his attributes, its unlikely he would play soley as a batsmen in the SL team, and we have also seen that his bowling isn't that strong with people like Fernando gettin picked instead of him.

i think in time he could develop as one, but as previously stated, needs to improve his bowling to be classed as a regular pick in the side 1st, then work on his batting.

Maharoof did not feel much like batting last night in the Asia vs Africa 20/20 game.

He bowled well enough though, 1/21 in his 4 overs. But when he was interviewed as the 3rd Asia wicket went down, he said he'd prefer not to bat tonight and that he was happy Malik and Afridi were lined up ahead of him! I reckon he prefers bowling on pacy wickets...to batting on them.

There was more pace and bounce in that pitch than what one expects in the sub-continent. Even Sreesanth said it was like bowling in South Africa...
