| Whilst it is an awesome acheivement to take 700 test wickets one has to question Murali's record. I do not intend to offend anyone but for several years many have questioned his action and some are still questioning it today. Australian umpires Hair and Emerson have both called him and Chris Broad acting as a match referee questioned his Doosra (see explaination below) which forced Murali into a bowlers rehab under the supervision of the ICC. The results of this rehab found his Doosra to be illegal and rather than ban the delivery the ICC changed the rules! Which i find rather interesting. Would they have done that if Warne's flipper was illegal? No. They would have banned him for life and rubbed his records from the books. The row over Murali's action still rumbles on with former Test legends Michael Holding, Bishan Bedi and Dean Jones all questioning whether or not he chucks the ball. As I said before it is an awesome acheivement in taking 700 test wickets and he could go on to break the 1,000 barrier, but for me Warne will always be number one as his action has never been questioned. And thats coming from a pom! The DOOSRA The doosra is a relatively new type of ball. Saqlain Mushtaq of Pakistan is credited with inventing the delivery which was integral to his success and indeed the history of off-spin bowling, as perhaps no off-spinner prior to him had bowled a delivery that had turned from leg to off. The naming of the delivery is attributed to Moin Khan, the former Pakistani wicketkeeper, who would shout to Mushtaq to bowl the "doosra" (the other one) from behind the stumps. Tony Greig, a commentator in one of the matches, eventually managed to link the word to the delivery and confirmed it from Saqlain in a post match interview. Thus the term doosra became a part of cricketing culture. The doosra has now become an important part of an off-spinner's armoury. (taken from WIKIPEDIA) ![]() |

| It is absolutely ridiculous the number of wickets that Murali is allowed to take. The recent series against Bangladesh is an example. In the first innings when Bangladesh were bowled out cheaply, Murali is thrown the ball in order to wipe out the tail and finish with 5-15, 4-14 and 6-20 odd. If he played for any other team he would simply have not got a bowl in that innings and the other bowlers would have been able to wrap up the innings. On the first morning of test match, Murali was actually the most used bowler in some of those innings and he really was not needed - it is not as if Vaas, Fernando and Malinga were not taking wickets. In the first test, he picked up the 5th wicket and came on to bowl at 40-4. He was then kept on till the end of the innings. Why? In the second test he took the last three wickets at 40-7. It is as if he has something in his contract saying that he MUST bowl regardless of whether other players are doing the job (he bowled more overs than Vaas). The same thing happened in the final test. There is no doubting that Muralitharan is a fantastic bowler, but he would probably have 200 fewer wickets if he played for a different team. It must really annoy the likes of Vaas who do all the hard work and see Muralitharan given every possible opportunity to improve his figures. |

I think Murali deserves all his accolades. And I hope he continues to play for another 3 or 4 years. |

| He is a good player and my favorite spinner so I hope he continue his good bowling even in Australia and play another 3 or 4 years and take 1000+ wickets.
