I thought a secret vote would be the fairest option but if people would rather debate the issue then please say so.

Why don't we vote, then debate the leading candidates like we did for the whole team?

I've received a handful of votes and there isn't a clear winner so on Tuesday I'll post the results and we'll try and find a clear winner by debate.

Mark Davies or Ali Cook, Davies as an eventual Hoggy replacement, Ali Cook as the most exciting young batsman of his generation. (and quite possibly of several generations either side if he lives up to his talent.)Cook has to be, I look forward to the day several years down the line when Captain Cook conquers Australia

Looks like we need to debate this further to come up with a clear winner.

Based on the stats of the CC in the past three years all three players are improving their game but I feel Shah and Joyce are more deserving of a Test call-up now than Cook. It's hard to split Shah and Joyce and I'd be happy if either won this year's award.

Of the bowlers, Davies deserves the award after two great seasons in succession. Panesar is promising but needs to show his consistency first before he gets my vote. Let's see if he can backup as well next year. Test players must produce good performances year after year to stay in the team. I think our award winner must have displayed the necessary consistency at county level.

Please can we clarify what the award should be picked on. Based on the name, I thought it was an award for who we think would be a key player for England in the future, I went for Cook as he's the youngest and already under consideration and has the potential for a long and fruitful England career. Whilst Joyce and Shah may be closer to the England team at the moment, I don't think they have as much long term potential. Obviously, this then depends on what this award should be based on!!
