| Brian Charles Lara Congrats to BC Lara!
Will he do the 400:200(400test match/200 ODi's?
Breaking a record once is amazing.Twice is fantastic.
What a player.
What a pity the only time I saw him bat at Kent he got two golden ducks! GUTTED! Brian Charles Lara
Rarely has a sportsman laid to rest the bogey- men in his head so effectively as Lara, with a 400 to answer any critics of his captaincy, and England on the ropes at 150 odd for five. To score the world record test runs once is a fantastic achievement, but twice is sublime. This series has been really awful for the West Indies, who arguably have not even won one session in a test until today, when they won seven in a row. Sport is all about comebacks and achievement, and both at the same time is a rare and satisfying event. Lara batted until his arms hurt, batted with belief, knew if he applied pressure he could and would win through, and had the courage and belief in himself and his team to do so. The West Indian bowlers will be rested, having two days of adrenaline coursing through their blood. They will force the follow on today and inflict an innings defeat on England, and deservedly so.
To come back from the shadows is the stuff of sporting legends. If people say ‘it’s the pitch’ ask them to bat for two days and score 400. And with the mental and psychological background of Lara, who’s scores until now had been mediocre. It’s a physically and mentally difficult task. I can’t see it being reproduced by an England batsman .The last to score over 300 was Graham Gooch. The last to score 200 plus was I think, Alec Stewart. Don’t dig the pitch up, it’s a batsmen’s paradise. Sabina Park is a bowler’s paradise. Test match cricket is about the conditions and profiting (or overcoming) them .To do both is a rare achievement. The England bowling attack wasn’t that bad, and BC Lara is world class. I think he will go on to 40, and be part of the regneration of WI cricket. Perhaps at the end of his career, He'll be able to say 'I created the best team in the world'. Even if he doesn't create the best team in the world, He's one of the best modern batsmen.
