| Fighting Effort It is true that the West Indies tail has not wagged in centuries in a test match but I think what really let the Windies down in the 2nd and 3rd tests was the lack of a ‘team’ batting effort. We all love the star players like Lara who can make the big hundreds but Windies needs more 50’s and 70’s players that can play around the big century makers. This is a team sport and if you’re not doing it with the ball, yuh better do it with the bat… The Lord only knows what’s wrong with Chris Gayle and his form, especially since he was coming into the 2nd test with excellent form from the Carib Beer series. Sarwan, does not know what to do with that short ball, hook or pull? NEITHER, DOCK! What is really irksome is that the coaching staff (the previous one) worked on that flaw and its seemed like they had all but eliminated that shot from his repetoire but somewhere between the Carib Beer Series and the Digicel/Cable and Wireless personal contract dispute Ramnaresh Ronnie Sarwan forgot everything he learnt. I don’t think the Windies bowled badly on the 3rd test. They came back particularly well on the second day of SA 1st Inning but the batting! It wasn’t like the pitch was bad , just ask Lara, AB De Villiers (What a rising star!) , Kallis, Smith and Dippenaar. 3 for 12 and 3 for 17 could never work and the tail what a let down… But the performances of the openers and 3rd man is most disheartening. Windies supporters can take a lost, we have unfortunately , had alot of practice in that department , but a lost is easier to take when there is a fighting effort!! If they give a fighting effort in every game, every player, we could forgive them anything… For the fouth test in Antigua, Tino Best and Narsingh Deonarine have replaced Ryan Hinds and Reon King (he was just going through the motions in Barbados). Best is coming back from an injury and he looked good on the 16th and 17th of April when he played against S.A with the UWI Vice Chancellor XI. (But felt Fidel Edwards looked better) After much ranting and raving, heated debates and a lengthy bout of Cricket depression, where West Indies die harders, at the mention of the word Cricket, drop their faces and reply, ‘Cricket? Pisposh, what the heck is that?’ However at the start of play on Friday, you’ll find them clued to the TV or Radio or whatever medium is available, with their hearts ram-packed with hope and a fighting desire to the see the Windies on top again. |

FOUR MEN SCORED HUNDRED TODAY AND WHAT DID THE WESTINDIES DO....NOTHEN ...AFTER A GREAT IST SESSION THIS MORNING ....AND ONCE AGAIN AFTER THE NEW BALL WAS TAKEN WESTINDIES FAILED TO TAKE A SINGLE WICKET....THINKING ABOUT THE GAME TODAY IT WAS THE BATSMAN WHO GAVE AWAY THEIR WICKET WITH THE EXCEPTION OF GIBBS...AFTER THE UMPIRE FAILED TO SEND PRINCE....(if he was really a "prince" he should of walked) BUT ANYWAY WESTINDIES BOWLERS ONCE AGAIN FAILED TO IMPRESS.NOW FORUM YOU TELL ME WHEN A TEAM HAS FIELDED TWO ENTIRE DAYS IN SUCCESSION HOW DO YOU EXPECT A TEAM TO BAT ON THE THIRD DAY WITH COMPLETE CONCENTRATION...............OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE MENTALLY TIRED.....ITS REALLY HARD TO FOCUS....I DON'T THINK THE WESTINDIES WILL WIN SIMPLY BEcaAUSE THEY MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES AGAIN AND AGAIN.....EXAMPLE.........................SARWAN.. .GAYLE...BRAVO..WE KNOW HINDS CAN'T BAT.... THE TEAM I WOULD SELECT....TELL ME IF YOU COMPLY FORUM.....(WHAT IS BROWNE DOING IN THIS TEAM--DROPPED SO MANY CATCHES....*****) 1) Brian Lara 2) Shivanarine Chanderpaul 3) Devon Smith 4) Chris Gayle 5) Ramnaresh Sarwan 6) Dwayne Bravo 7) Dinesh Ramdin (KEEPER)PLEASE GIVE THIS BOY A CHANCE..PLEASE HE IS GOOD REALLY GOOD AND CAN BAT TOO... 8) Dave Mohammed or this guy from jamaica....can't recall his name though....(spinner) 9) Collins 10) Bradshaw 11) Dwight Washington(promising but needs to increase his pace then he becomes deadly) |

| The West Indies do not have a good bowling attack, not for test cricket… I was not impressed by any of the bowlers today. I saw too many overs with 4 good balls and then 2 awful ones. I know the pitch flat, and it ain’t easy bowling out there but way the control gone? You can not bowl a batsman a ball that is wide off his off stump, especially on a flat pitch, you just asking for trouble (especially from people like Kallis) All I know, the West Indies better come out there tomorrow and bat like they mean business… This is cricket we talking about, batting, bowling and fielding. That is the game, whether you spend one or three days on the field, professional players should be able to switch on their concentration to suit any aspect of the game. That is why they making the big bucks. I was most disappointed with Bravo today… I usually expect the best out of him, today he did not show it. Tomorrow’s another day. Not impressed at all with Washington, he has no pace, and he bowled to many short balls. After 60 plus overs, a short ball just sits up for the batsman asking to be hit for four. Best was okay but still don’t have that control that will make him great. Ah like your team… The Jamaican guy you are referring to is Kelly Miller (off spinner, and leading wicket taker for spinners in Carib Beer series). I haven’t seen him bowl, but I have seen Mohammed and I like his style. When he played against S.A on the 16 &17 April, you always felt he was going to take a wicket in each over. He got 5 wickets in that game, and could have had more if not for dropped catches. Therefore I would play Mohammed over Miller. Totally agree that Browne is having an awful series with the bat and the glove. (I fed up hear people say, he deserve a chance since he and Bradshaw scored the winning runs in ICC champions trophy) The man, 36 and he ain’t getting better, it’s time we give the youngsters a chance. Sure the Windies tried Baugh and he ain’t work, it is about time they give Ramdin a go! I would play Dwayne Smith or Marlon Samuels ahead of Devon Smith, and Edwards (once he not injured) or Best--- not Washingston |
