West Indies shot themselves in the foot today

Sarwan and Chanderpaul's horrible run outs cost the Windies today. But my main concern is Xavier Marshall what is he doing there? I think he has played a single number of FC games and is a 19 year old kid being thrown in at the deep end. This is destroying his confidence match by match and this could ruin his entire career. I don't know what the selecetors are trying to prove having him in the team but he needs to be omitted immediately to stop his confidence from going completely down the hill. If they can;t do better than a 19 year old rookie with numerous techincal problems then there is a clear lack of depth in West Indian batsmen. I feel very sorry for the young lad his world has come crashing down in the worst possible way in these 6 ODIs that he has played.

I agree with you whole heartedly on the Xavier Marshall front - and have expressed similar concerns over this issue in another thread on the 2nd one-day international here

Lara took a "rest".

Xavier Marshall, I agree with. Even 18 year old Zimbabweans were scoring half centuries when thrown into the deep end. Many say Marshall reminds them alot of Lawrence Rowe. At 19, he is too young and has only played 4 First Class games. I think the West Indies should think of him as a player for the 2007 World Cup. Don't pick him until late next year. Let him get a full season of Domestic Cricket under his belt and then see how he is from there. It also frustrates me that these big names aren't able to step up. And Runako Morton; a good knock, but his scoring rate is too slow for One-Day Cricket.

West Indies are playing worse than Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. If the WI selectors think that only 19 year old rookies are going to save West Indies, then there is no need to play cricket. Also,it was amusing to see Chanderpaul and Sarwan vent their anger on the tailenders who were playing dot balls. These 2 players got out in the worst possible fashion and they had no business to get disgruntled.

Yes but it wasn't Chanderpaul's fault he got run out! Anyway WI might be playing bad but to say they are playing worse than Banglas and Zimbabwe is harsh. Pakistan are a good ODI outfit and they won a couple of games against India more convincingly than this and the West Indies aren't playing that badly.

The games Pakistan won against India were ones in which they scored over 300. But West Indies can`t even chase 190!! I cant believe how you are telling they aren`t playing so badly! They have lost 5-0 against SA and 2-0 (mostly 3-0) by tonight against Pakistan. All I can say is they are playing poor cricket because they do not have good world class players in the team

I beg to differ Rineet, I think some of their players are good enough to make any world eleven. What they dearly lack is the right mental aptitude and most importantly, confidence.

Everytime they seem to gain some, sponsorship deals and such intervenes and its back to square one.

Only Chris Gayle is good enough to play for a world XI. None of the bowlers are good.

Lara wanted to play but was told to sit the one days out by the coach.
