Barrington Rowland...

Barrington Rowland in an opener for Karnataka. He is the 'Rahul Dravid' of the team now-very consistent and dependable. But what are his chances of making it big? Very less if you ask me. He's in the Aakash Chopra mould, but the thing is he's getting a lot of competiton from Dhiraj Jadhav, Shikhar Dhawan. If Gautam Gambhir fails to keep his place in the Test team, Dhiraj Jadhav would get a chance and Dhawan comes after that! So Rowland will have to do a lot more before he gets a chance. And by the way he's yet to be even get selected for any of the India-A tours...You can read an interview by clicking on this link http://www.cricketfundas.com/barryinterview.html

The problem with Indian cricketers is, the Akash Chopra mould are not usually selected, which is bad.

The Indian selectors job is not to recognise genuine talent and groom it but simply go by the statistics and back your zonal player to the hilt. If he's a hit you get all the credit and your standing improves and if not then simply shut your mouth for some time, support some other zone's player, and wait for someone from your zone to make news. A good selector here is not one who is able to unearth talented players but is one who is able to get a lot of players from his zone to play for India and India-A. Its that simple!

Agreed, there are a lot of very classy players who only ever see the Ranji Trophy contests.

Tendulkar-Ganguly wont be there for the tri-series in Sri Lanka, so whom do you guys think should make it to the team? I suppose Dinesh Mongia and Sridharan Sriram would get the green signal but there is place for another batsman...as per me only people fit the bill-Suresh Raina and Jai Prakash Yadav. If they want to chose someone considering the future Suresh Raina should make it or if they are looking for a genuine allrounder who could atleast be with the team till the 2007 world cup, JP Yadav should get the nod. What do you guys say?

yeah,Raina and J P Yadav were 2 players whom I thought should have played in the ODI series against Pakistan as they were in good form. Both are all-rounders who can be useful to the team. I think Sriram doesn`t deserve a place in the team. He hasn`t performed inspite of getting many chances. Mongia is a better player.

All Sriram needs is to learn to handle the pressure and you'll see he can be a very useful player. He can be a more than useful left-armer and did you know he took a hat-trick in the finals of the Ranji-knockout ODI tournament finals which helped tie the game!

Sriram is good only in the domestic level. He can`t perform at the international level. He has got so many chances to play in the team but he hasn`t performed at all!! Only Vinod Kambli got more chances than Sriram to play for India and still not perform. There are so many players who have performed well and yet, not got a chance at the highest level. So, the selectors should look for someone new rather than going for the same player who has failed time and again.

Getting 2 games every 3 years is not the same as being given consistent opportunities. I am sure if Greg Chappell had been around or even John Wright for that matter when Sriram was coming through, he would have had an actual fair shot at International cricket.
