An interesting match coming up in Brisbane, Jacob Oram and Shane Bond return to play in a squad containing most of our candidates. Ryder, How, Bruce Martin, Fulton, Hopkins.

Also a couple of young up comers, Te Ahu Davis and Jeetan Patel.

It will be interesting to see how they all fare.

i didn't know there are rules for A team selection (or is that just a WAT thing?). here's the official NZ A team for a tour to Sri Lanka (and i think a tri-series with South Africa):

Peter Fulton (captain), James Franklin, Chris Harris, Gareth Hopkins, Jamie How, James Marshall, Bruce Martin, Chris Martin, Iain O’Brien, Michael Papps, Jeetan Patel, Jesse Ryder, Mathew Sinclair, Daryl Tuffey

so the rules exlplain the omisison of Butler, but why/how then are Harris, Sinclair and Tuffey included.

I'm really dissapointed Butler's not there - can't the selectors see he's the future of NZ cricket? they seem to have gambled a lot on Bond, OK great if he stays fit - but I imagine he'll get injured in South Africa and quit the game for good. Then what? Back to Mills and Martin? I hope not!!

AND . . .

Butler in for O'Brien, Ross Taylor in for Harris. A teams should be about the future - Harris should be put out to pasture . . .

Hi Mr.Kiwi,

There are no rules for actual A team selection, but on WAT our A teams do.

The criterion are:

1) The player must have played less than six tests

AND

2) The player is under 30 years of age.

I hope you can join in the debate in picking a NZ team of the future. Cheers.

Have you seen the list of eligible players that someone did at the start of the England A team thread? It looks really good and shows everyone up front who they can and can't pick.

That would take a while but if anyone wishes to volunteer themselves it'd be appreciated.

I know that I'll be doing it for the next Australia A team selected on this forum. The easiest way would be by going onto team pages and looking at the player profiles.

Could we please finalize the WAT New Zealand A team for 2005? If you haven't already taken part in this thread you can still be a selector if you submit your team and help formulate a final WAT XI.

Eligible Players

I've compiled this list of eligible players, excludes all those over 30 (dammit, Chris Nevin's excluded!) and all those who've played more than 5 tests and have played in the last 3 years. I've also excluded players who've played less than 5 first class games. See below
