excuse my late entry to the discussion, haven't had internet access for a few weeks unfortunately.

I like most of the team so far and wish i could of taken part in the discussion, but at the 11th hour i'll add my two cents.

I haven't seen much of Flynn so i'll pick Bell as the last batsmen.

Was McGlashen not eligible for the keepers spot?

Well ladies and gents, Sittingduck's contribution, in the absense of CD Stags leaves us with the following team as the WAT New Zealand A Team:

How, Fulton, Taylor, Ryder, Papps, Bell, Watling, Yovich, Patel, Sherlock and Aldridge

I reckon the batting order would look something like: How, Papps, Taylor, Ryder, Bell, Fulton, Watling, Yovich, Patel, Aldridge, Sherlock

How do people feel about that side on paper? To me, it looks very capable of scoring shed-loads of runs. The top six are all international class, and the batting goes down to Patel at number 9. The bowling is definately the weaker end of the spectrum, though Patel has shown himself to be international class in the WI ODI series, Yovich, Sherlock and Aldridge are largely untried. I suppose the only alternative would be to use Papps in the 'Alec Stewart' role, and bring in a bowler for Watling, but given the voting, unless there are any serious complaints, the team will stand as above.

As for McGlashen, I think the general consensus seems to have been that he's not good enough. Frankly, I don't think his name was even brought up until now. The only time I've seen him play, he looked way off with the gloves, although he can be destructive with the bat. But in answer to your question, he certainly is eligible for the team as he meets all the team criteria with ease.

Interesting to see that in the recently picked Kiwi Development side, the only player we selected that did not get chosen was BJ Watling. Gareth Hopkins was chosen ahead of him.

Sounds like we did a pretty decent selection job!

A few of our team should be named tomorrow in the list of 20 contracted players too.
How, Fulton, Taylor, Papps, and Patel have all been rumoured though only 2 or 3 of the first 4 will get contracts I would think.

I quite agree. Fulton seems to be a player that Bracewell has a lot of time for, and rightly so. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't get a central contract. How to a lesser extent. He's not exactly impressed in his opportunities so far, and may miss out. I'd like to see Taylor given more of a chance. To my mind, he looks to have the best technique in a Kiwi bat since... I don't know, Martin Crowe maybe? I think Papps needed to have done better in South Africa personally, but then it was slightly surprising he got the call for South Africa in the first place when he'd been nowhere near playing against the Windies!

I suppose the other question is will this round of contracts see the end of Skippy Sinclair as a Kiwi?
