WAT Pakistan A 2005/06

Now that the Pakistan domestic season of 2005 is over it's time for our WAT Pakistan selectors to put their reputations on the line and select the most deserving players who have performed well in 2005/06 and who fit the WAT criteria.

Criteria:
1. Players must be under 30 years of age when the team is selected.
2. They must not have played more than 5 Test matches.
3. The players must have potential to play Test cricket. Some players are only suited to one-day cricket. If you feel a player can develop into a Test cricketer then select him as a candidate.
4. To avoid anomolies the player should have competed in at least 8 first-class matches in the current domestic season ( the selectors may adjust this figure in exceptional or unusual circumstances ). The point of this rule is that a player has to be judged on performances in the 2005/06 season to warrant selection in the WAT team.

If you wish to be a WAT selector please start by nominating your list of contenders. The number in the list can be variable but the final Pakistan A team should be as balanced as possible. For example, all the bowlers shouldn't be spinners nor should the team contain more than one wicketkeeper.

Once all the selectors have nominated their contenders it's up to them to discuss the best candidates and formulate a final XI.

Please make a note of any instances in which the above criteria (or any other) seems unreasonable: I raised this matter with regard to James Foster here and a suggested ammendment was made here.

No set of rules will ever be perfect... and choping and changing in relation to very unusual cases strikes me as worse than living with rules that unfairly exclude unusual cases... but if clearcut improvements can be agreed upon then that has to be a good thing.

There has been interest in this recently, do any Pakistan fans want to select their team based on the criteria in admin's post?

I haven't decided on my team yet but I have checked the following players who featured in International matches or warm-up matches against International teams during 2005. Please check your teams and make sure they all qualify. Generally, they must be under 30 in 2005 and have played less than 6 Test matches. If they have played more than 5 Test matches they may qualify under the Exceptional Circumstance rule.

Non-qualifiers:

Abdul Razzaq; Asim Kamal; Arshad Khan; Danish Kaneria; Faisal Athar; Faisal Iqbal; Hasan Raza; Imran Farhat; Inzamam-ul-Haq; Kamran Akmal; Misbah-ul-Haq; Mohammad Sami; Mohammad Yousuf; Mushtaq Ahmed; Naved-ul-Hasan; Salman Butt; Shahid Afridi; Shabbir Ahmed; Shoaib Akhtar; Shoaib Malik; Taufeeq Umar; Yasir Hameed; Younis Khan

Qualifiers:

Amin-ur-Rehman; Ashar Zaidi; Bazid Khan; Iftikhar Anjum; Imran Tahir; Junaid Zia; Mansoor Amjad; Mohammad Asif; Mohammad Hafeez; Mohammad Irshad; Mohammad Khalil; Najaf Shah; Rizwan Ahmed; Shahid Nazir*; Shahid Yousuf; Shehzad Malik; Yasir Arafat; Zulqarnain Haider

*Shahid Nazir (8 Test matches - Last Test Mar 4-8, 1999 - may qualify under Exceptional Circumstance rule)
