But then, won't people who know the team better than me tell me my selections are stupid?

I believe statistics reveal a lot about the ability of a player. If they didn't you wouldn't have the ICC Player Rankings which are compiled from statistics.
I work with stats on a daily basis, love them...But you must agree they're sometimes a bit one-dimensional, aren't they?

But I see what you mean and I definitely get the point, and seeing that I now have a better idea as to how this works, I will participate more and hopefully better. Thanks.

Wanderer, do you have any thoughts about Rachael's revised team? I'd like to address the issue of two spinners in the team. I know that teams will play two spinners from time to time but should we consider a second front-line spinner (Peterson) in this case which would force the omission of JJ van der Wath? In your opinion, who is more deserving to be included in the side?

Rachael's team is just about perfect, apart from Kuhn and Peterson. (my opinion only )

I've already given my reasons as to why I prefer Thami to Kuhn.

As far as Peterson is concerned. Well, I think he is average. Okay at franchise level though. He's been given a lot of opportunities at the higher level, and failed. If he can improve, it's time he does so, fast. SA has this hate/hate relationship with spinners. Hopefully we're learning... So yes, one spinner it is for me. Thandi. The others just are not good enough...

Can't omit JJ van der Wath. He's my bowling all rounder.

Stephen Cook and Arno Jacobs are 2 very good selections by Rachael. Arno was considered to be a"one-day specialist" a couple of seasons ago, but for about 3 seasons now he has proven he's top class. The toss-up for a position will be between him and Zander de Bruyn.

So with my team I reckon my batting stops at 8. With 3 bowlers to follow. Not the perfect scenario these days, but I need to balance the team.

Another question please... We all know about SA's quota system. So are we taking that into account, or not?

Only indirectly. The domestic competition we consider is the franchise system called SuperSport. There is no specific quota in place for the teams involved like there is for provincial cricket. Nor is there a specific quota requiring x number of coloured players in the national side. There is probably a gentleman's agreement to use positive discrimination at those levels to ensure every team has a few coloured players but there is no exact figure. This means the WAT selectors can choose their team on merit and the final XI will probably include some coloured players without having to specifically target them.

Great. All the players in my team are there on ability, nothing else. Just wanted to make sure...
