Should Adil Rashid be considered the frontrunner on the specialist spinner front? He's only 18 years old and has just the five first class games to his name... but rather like Panesar last year, he's made the best of limited opportunities. My concern is that he's very expensive... not giving the captain the control that's required at Test level. it's all very well saying he's you and that the control will come... but the same was said of Salisbury, and that precedent is NOT encouraging.
Doshi's season is a tough one to judge given that it's in division two... but on a very batsman friendly home pitch he did become one of the leading wicket takers of the season. To my mind his control was still nothing to write home about... but it might just be our least-worst option.
Edit: If none of the specialists inspire then Batty might still have to be considered. He's bowled more overs than Doshi this season and taken 43 wickets at a decent average.... but unlike all of the others he's offered control: an economy rate of 2.9 compares unfavourably with Panesar's 2.64 but it is at least credible.
