| WAT Australia 'A' 2006/07 The Australian season is now well under way and we'll soon start seeing which players are likely to challenge for a place in the 2006 / 07 'A' team: use this thread to make note of performances that impress and to track the progress of players in the existing side. The 2005 / 06 side read as follows: 1. Phil Jaques (NSW) 2. Callum Ferguson (SA) 3. Mark Cosgrove (SA) 4. Shane Watson (QLD) 5. Dominic Thornely (NSW) 6. David Hussey (VIC) 7. Cameron White (VIC) 8. Brad Haddin (NSW) 9. Dan Cullen (SA) 10. Mitchell Johnson (QLD) 11. Shaun Tait (SA) See http://www.world-a-team.com/showthread.php?t=5311 ps. How come no Cullen Bailey? Surely he should be in at 8.... Last edited by Rachael : 21-11-2006 at 11:20 PM. |

| I see no reason why it should not begin right now: are you willing to produce a list of eligible players? Players automatically qualify if they are under 30 years of age, have played no more than 5 recent Tests and have played at least 5 domestic fixtures... and the domestic stats should be available on cricinfo. Post them up here and we can get started |

| No one else but me seems to be interested but anyways. This is my opinion on what the side should look like. Chris Rogers - 29 years (7562 runs at 50.07, 2007: 1202 runs at 70.70) Phil Jaques - 27 years (9344 runs at 56.97, 2007: 987 runs at 47.00) David Hussey - 29 years (6552 runs at 51.18, 2007: 911 runs at 53.58) Marcus North - 27 years (6481 runs at 43.20: 2007 680 runs at 42.50 Adam Voges - 27 years (1724 runs at 42.04, 2007: 630 runs at 57.57) Brad Haddin (wk) - 29 years (4933 runs at 40.43, 2007: 669 runs at 55.75) Andy McDonald - 25 years (1151 runs at 32.88, 66 wickets at 29.93, 2007: 750 runs at 57.69, 29 wick at 30.26) Mitchell Johnson - 25 years (67 wickets at 27.74, 2007 12 wickets at 24.58) Cullen Bailey - 22 years (54 wickets at 41.51, 2007: 26 wickets at 41.15) Talented! Statistics can be deceiving Shaun Tait - 24 years (174 wickets at 27.33, 2007: 29 wickets at 27.10) Ben Hilfenhaus - 24 years (99 wickets at 27.52, 2007: 60 wickets at 25.38) 12th Man: Cameron White 23 years (3686 runs at 36.13, 133 wickets at 38.57, 2007: 437 runs at 39.72, 9 wickets at 49.77) White just lost his place to McDonald because of his great season. White is good enough to be in the side but he just doesn’t fit into this side I don't think he is as good a batsman as the older players that the top 6 batting positions consists of. Bailey is a better leg spinner and is talented so why not give him a shot because he is the most promising spinner and probably the best spinner under the age of 30 in Australia, edging out the left arm off spinner Heal and team mate Dan Cullen who is a right arm off spinner who looked quite ordinary when he made his test debut against Bangladesh I tried not to put in too many 29 year old players but the seasons that Rogers, Haddin and Hussey have had were been brilliant and would be a crime to leave them out of the side. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE CAN SOMEONE ELSE PUT FORWARD THEIR VERSION OF THE SIDE SO THIS THREAD DOESNT GO DEAD!!!!!!

| I'd go with Heal as the spinner: England's batsmen singled him out as more promising than Bailey and Cullen when they toured and his season has been productive. Note especially the HUGE gulf in economy rates: Bailey has some work to do to be trusted with the ball... but Heal looks ready NOW! Code: Name Mat O M R W Ave Best 5 10 SR Econ Team AK Heal 8 220.3 41 603 22 27.40 5-57 2 1 60.1 2.73 WA CB Bailey 9 325.2 38 1198 29 41.31 4-103 - - 67.3 3.68 SOA I have an aversion to seeing 4 seamers in a side and would much prefer a balanced attack of three seamers and two spinners.... but it is very difficult to argue him down after such a successful season. Cameron White would compliment the other bowlers more effectively (especially on tracks that don't help seamers) but you man has built a strong case! The rest of the side seems to me to pretty much pick itself! Last edited by Rachael : 03-04-2007 at 06:25 AM. |

| Yeh it was a toss of a coin between Heal and Bailey so I would have to agree with you from what you have shown me. Bailey is a prodigy of Warne he works with Andrew Jenner who rates him as a highly talented spinner but Heal has the results which counts. Young bowling line up looks quite positive

| I dont know but maybe the A team selection criteria in regards to the number ODI's players are allowed to play as a maximum. We have 2 guys here Nathan Bracken 65 ODI's and Shane Watson 62 ODI's now thats multiple tours away nationally. I noticed Bangladesh had a guy Razzak a left arm slow bowler with a fair stack of ODI's against his name still eligible. Should the criteria be reveiwed for instance put a maximum of 25 ODI's on the criteria. |
