I dont know. He seems to be turning into a younger version of Shoaib Akhtar..."no-show" for training camp... and a match against Surrey at the Oval. He did send coach Phil Simmons a belated SMS saying he "missed his flight"...

And turning his back against his country because he feels hard done by...He's still so young for goodness sake! He should have bided his time I think...

Yes. Jesse seems to have a bit of a self-destructive streak. He's even threatened to desert New Zealand and try to qualify for England. Good luck with that one, Jesse

Well, he did say "every now and then you do some stupid things"...Maybe he will realise sooner rather than later one only gets away with those so many times...unless you're a permanent fixture in your national side...or a Hilton heir

I noticed that a few of the WAT 'A' side are in the recently announced ODI side...

Lou Vincent, Jamie How, Ross Taylor, Scott Styris, Brendon McCullum (wk), Gareth Hopkins, Jacob Oram, Daniel Vettori (capt), Kyle Mills, James Franklin, Shane Bond, Mark Gillespie, Jeetan Patel, Michael Mason.

How was in the previous years team along with Fulton who was named in the test squad but pulled out through injury. Taylor and Patel were in that side also.

And most of the other players in these announced teams were obviously ineligible for selection for our A team.

Disappointed to see Hopkins selected as a 'batsman' ahead of some proper middle order batsmen who've stuck their hands up for selection.

Unfortunately, for our 2006/7 team, Stu Mills has hung up his boots at a young age in order to earn some proper money from working in business. So, that's one selection faux-pas we made. Should have gone for Griggs.

Andy, I read yesterday (I can't remember where) that Hopkins has some impressive stats at provincial level, not that that means he'll be any good at the top level.

I would have thought though that if he was aprt of their plans this year (as he clearly is from being one of the 20 contracted players) that they should have blooded him at the 2020 world cup to give him some experience of top flight bowling.

I'm reserving judgement until I've seen him perform but I'm not too hopeful.

I thought that Hopkins' impressive bat stats were actually in First Class cricket though rather than One Dayers?

Shame 50% of your players are leaving! You'll probably finish below Counties next season

Are we expecting to see the youthful good looks of Lauchie Monroe playing full games next year?
