Personally, Jesse Ryder and Ross Taylor look to be the best young batsmen I've seen in recent times. I'm a big fan. They look to be as good, if not better, than Alastair Cook to my mind.

My initial thoughts based on the teams above (ignoring the current England A selection process)

Question marks to my mind would be over Runako Morton, Dale Steyn and Yassir Arafat. Could bring in Hafeez for Morton?

So if a player qualified for their respective 'A' team but have now played more than 5 tests then will this make them ineligible for the world team?

I think this should be the case and something to keep in mind.

The biggest problem could be deciding what conditions you are picking a team for, that would be a much bigger factor with many aspects of the process being dependent on that.

Gah! That'll just make them even tougher to beat on the world stage

Or maybe they'd compete in those pointless 12-a-side games that get played as warm ups these days.

I have gone for selecting the best team in general conditions. I.e. if the pitch had no bearing on the decision, who are the best players to make up

6 batsmen, 1 keeper, 1 allrounder, 1 spinner, 2 other bowlers

To answer the curious, i think to get my *11* I would drop Morton to drinks carrier and hope that he didn't get too upset with the decision

As for Sittingduck's question on eligibility - I'm not sure myself. The guys who've now exceeded 5 tests were selected for their respective A Teams, so it seems a bit unfair to exclude them, but they have breached the qualification criteria. I guess this would only apply to Hachim Amla and Jerome Taylor??

Okay, I think Andy has persuaded me. We'll gather selectors between now and the end of the selection of the England A team for 2006, at which time we will officially kick off selection. The way this will be done is the same as for the current England A team but will simply revolve around each selector picking their favourite team from the established national A teams, with key players, and submitting them to me at a date which I will decide later. I will then post the selections which can be debated until we reach a final World A Team - if this drags on I may post a deadline.

I am now going to post a poll, if you want to be a World A Team selector then you need to vote in it.
