As the chairman of selectors for the New Zealand A team, I will nominate Fulton, Taylor and Ryder. Fulton has played test and ODI cricket, Taylor has played a couple of ODIs and took part in the Top End series and Ryder took part in the Top End series.

All players that I've seen. Taylor is the biggest talent I've seen in a long time, and Ryder's pretty close behind. Both can turn their arms over as a little plus point. Fulton probably has the most orthodox technique of the 3 though.

I'm submitting these nominations as I'm away on holiday for a fortnight from tomorrow. Maybe sittingduck could defend the Kiwi corner whilst I'm away?

The only other rival that I can see from the Kiwi A Team who might be worthy of inclusion is Jeetan Patel (test and ODI experience). If Sittingduck would rather include him over Fulton or Ryder (Taylor is a MUST as far as I'm concerned!) then I'm happy for him to do so!

Good luck guys!

OK... as chair of the England WAT selection process I've got a problem: Joyce stands out... as, perhaps, does Yardy, but our selectors were hugely divided on the rest - Broad was first choice bowler for only five selectors out of ten.... and none of the others got more than twoout of ten... and even if we wanted to nominate two bowlers we'd be unable to seperate Broad, Tremlett and Mahmood!

To compound matters... England's selectors had great wicket-keeping options available to them in Foster, Davies and the rest and only narrowly agreed on who was most deserving.... and I'm not sure how confident everyone is that Compton (the leading opener) is a truly sensational prospect.

I'm going to have to poll the England selectors for their top 3 in order of preference in order to contribute further!

Colly, please clarify if the qualifying teams are those from 2005/06 and 2006. The qualifiers from the England A side are: (Compton and Rashid don't qualify for the World A XI since they haven't played England A, ODI, Test matches.)
Code:
Compton
Newman (England A)
Yardy (England A, ODI)
Joyce (England A, ODI)
Sales (England A)
Dalrymple (England A, ODI)
Foster (England A, ODI, Test)
Rashid
Broad (England A, ODI)
Tremlett (ECB National Academy, ODI)
Mahmood (England A, ODI, Test)
Also please clarify whether you want us to choose 8 players from all qualifying teams. The problem with this is that most people weren't involved with selecting all teams under consideration. How can they possibly guage the best players from teams they didn't help select? My feeling is that the selectors should post or PM their top 3 players only for the teams they acted as selectors for.

For example, since I helped select the England A team, I would vote:
3 Joyce (middle-order bat)
2 Mahmood (quick seamer)
1 Dalrymple (middle-order bat, part-time off-spin)

My votes for the Pakistan A team are:
3 Mohammad Asif (seam/swing bowler)
2 Mohammad Hafeez (opening bat)
1 Yasir Arafat (seam bowling all-rounder)

My votes for the South Africa A team are:
3 HM Amla (middle-order bat)
2 DW Steyn (quick seamer)
1 JP Duminy (middle-order bat)

My votes for the Bangladesh A team are:
3 Shahriar Nafees (opening bat)
2 Abdur Razzak (SLA)
1 Hasibul Hossain (RFM)

The idea was for selectors to name three players from the side with which they are familiar... and to then wait until everyone else has done the same. This would provide a small pool of players (based on genuine familiarity) which could form the basis for discussion and debate.

AFTER the discussion and debate, we should each be in a position to nominate 8 players to the shortlist... because by then we'll ALL be familiar with ALL the leading contenders.

Rach, I'd like to keep it to players who have A team experience where possible, as it is highly likely they will have played against other full international sides and given a glimpse or more of their ability.

Mike - it is as Rachael said, though I'm not keen on her suggested proviso. After all, the selection of players in an A team gives us an idea of their standing in their own nation, doesn't it? Each nation's selectors nominate 3 players, and we can then select our own sides from the resulting pool of players after examination of the squad we have to work with. The most popular players would then be debated for the final side.

Could someone take this on as far as organising nominations etc goes? I have a very important job interview next week which will demand my time for preparation. Remember that we also need time to allow potential selectors to get interested, so if Andy and others could hold back on nominations until all this is settled that would be great!

I dont think he should quality is there a moral barrier that players have to cross. Question? would someone who is older that has played there test dubut this year qualify or is it just young players?

After going through the whole thread and pretty much understanding the entire concept of selection, here are my 3 nominated players from the Domestic circuit of Pakistan.

Yasir Arafat
IMO, one of the more improved players in recent times, Yasir was very raw when he made his debue against Lankans nearly 7 years ago. But over the years he added more mileage on his deliveries and also started to deliver down the order for his respective teams. He recently had a successful county stint with Sussex in England. A place where 10 years ago cricketing world first took notice of him featuring for his home country in Lombard U-15 WC.

Mansoor Amjad
In spite of just being 20, he has 100+ FC wickets & 2 100s against his name. He is also among those tipped by Woolmer for potential greatness.

Shahid Yousaf
Statistically he doesn’t look phenomenal, but those who seen him play affirms that he’s one of the more realistic options to replace Inzzy when he calls it a day.

I have tried to maintain the selection criteria mentioned in other threads, still if there’s any ambiguity, pls inform me.

From England, Mahmood and Joyce are musts. I would be reluctant to include either Dalrymple or Yardy, however.

I know the threads gone a bit stale but considering we are at the closing stages of the World Cup and most of us have had a fair look at other countries players including a few in each team who would probably eligible for A team selection it might be a good time to re start it.

I nominate for Australia

Shaun Tait (RFB) Fast Bowler
Shane Watson (RFMB) (RHB) Allrounder

Both playing in world cup for Australia

Brad Haddin (RHB) and Keeper; Reserve keeper for Adam Gilchrist in this World Cup

Other Australians who could be considered under the previous criteria by "Admin" are

Cameron White
Nathan Bracken
Adam Voges
Phil Jaques
James Hopes
Mitchell Johnson

New Zealand's Ross Taylor must be somewhere up thier, Sri Lanka's Chamara Silva and Bangladesh's Abdur Razzak amongst a few from other countries.
