| Wonder why Tom Smith only got 8 overs. |

| Thats a point, at least he seemed economical. More to the point why did Broad get 18 if he was getting carted?

| Could be he started economically but got tired. Wonder when they will announce the two newcomers and will they pick two young players or two players with the World Cup in mind in case there are injuries. |

| Well for the anti Mahmood brigade the bowing averages proved a point, The players with the greater runs against - seem to get the wickets, but this really is one in the eye for those calling for Broad in place of Mahmood, Broad on these figures just seems a slower version of Mahmood. Yardy - Onions and Broad all expensive, but getting the wickets. Matt Prior if he keeps this up - will cause some sleepless nights for Read and Jones, Fletcher loves a keeper who gets runs. Maybe Tom Smith was injured, if not it's strange he was underused.

Even Tom Smith had 1 for 20 with an economy rate of 3, but the bulk of the wicket were taken by the three bolwers I mentioned. My general point was fair though, Broad has been mentioned as a more economical player than Mahmood (and should be selected in his place), but these figures don't really back that up.

More seasoned observers seem more impressed by Broad's mental strength and cricketing brain than by what he currently does with the ball: they back him to deliver his best at the highest level and to hold his nerve as a death-bowler in ODIs. |

| So we have Kirtley and Gidman joining the Academy Squad. I would have thought bowlers like Hogg, Footitt or another young bowler should have been chosen. By picking Kirtley they are saying that Broad will miss out for the more experienced addition. On standby? Bowler - Kirtley Keeper - Prior All rounder/spinner - Yardy Batsman - could be anyone Is it just coincidence Moores being from Sussex? |
