Interview with Dave Nosworthy, NZA Coach

I've lined up an interview with Dave Nosworthy, the coach for the New Zealand A tour to Australia coming up in July-August.

Given that this is quite a coup for us, I was thinking that some of our esteemed membership may have some questions that they'd like to ask.

Dave currently coaches Canterbury as well as New Zealand A.

So, fire away!

Can he see Kruger van Wyk playing for New Zealand when he qualifies?
Why did he leave South Africa?
Who did he think was the better batsman Rudolph or Myburgh?

Thanks for the opportunity Dave, here are some of mine and you do not have to answer any if it's uncomfortable or anything!

1. That advice you gave Kruger van Wyk...would you have followed it yourself had you been a couple of years younger?

2. I know your highest first class score is 141* in a UCB Bowl match, but what would you say have been the highlights of your cricket career: As a player, a captain and then as a coach.

3. What would you do to better the situation of spinners in SA cricket?

4. Do you think the Franchise system is strong enough, or do SA cricket need something else to better prepare their first class players for the next step.

5. Is the First Class set-up of New Zealand similar to that of SA? (having been involved with both countries' A teams...)

6. Errol Stewart and Keith Ford pummeled you guys in a huge stand before you got the wicket of Ford. If I'm correct, that was your only first class wicket....BUT my question is: WHY on earth did you bring Mark Boucher on to bowl???!!! (Hope he hasn't lost his Safrican sense of humour)

7. Do you think SA, New Zealand and Australian cricket can have a Cricket "Super 14" ? - Or Super 12 at least...(lets forget the logistics of it at for moment!)

Can I also ask some non-cricketing questions?

You certainly can. Just not too personal, eh?

Well, THATS no fun... Anyhows, you decide which ones arent okay then....

1. Describe yourself in 5 words.
2. What is your favourite Afrikaans word? Please be painfully honest...and also describe it to our English readers ...(nb: Afrikaans is a VERY expressive language...)
3. What really, really irritates you?
4. When as the last time you were embarrased? (to the point of wanting the earth to swallow you up..)
5. Grey Kollege is your alma mater. Name some of your fellow students from back then who like you, have also gone on to greater cricketing things.

Well, I've sent the questions off to Dave. In the end, there were 29 questions for him! Most of these were regarding coaching and how he sees his role for the NZ A Team. A good number of the suggested questions above have been included, but given the number of questions and due to him being a very busy man, do not expect to hear the answers straight away.

I'll post the reply as soon as I have it.
