Yes. It always seems easier to like the self-effacing rather than the self-publicising. Given how much more important cricket is in other countries compared to NZ, even an international New Zealand cricketer doesn't get as much attention as some of his less illustrious collegues over the ditch. Hard to become obsessed with onesself if you're never going to get in the media anyway!!

I wonder if the popularity of the game in New Zealand is due to the fact that NZ had Max Cricket before 20:20. Compared to Max Cricket (with its 'maximum hitting zones' and so forth), 20:20 is a test match!! I think before NZ can dominate 20:20, they need to find a big hitter with a decent enough technique (a la Matthew Hayden in the World Cup just gone). It certainly seems that test cricket is dying here a lot quicker than in England or Australia.
