Agreed re Foster, but I voted for Ambrose over Davies. Davies' poor season this year, plus minor technique problems rule him out for me, which left Ambrose or Mustard. As Rach said in another thread, the batting doesn't look fantastic this year, so Ambrose got in for me on the old "Fletcher principle", if you catch my drift.

You could be right - but I am surprised there has been no support for Mustard, I don't know that much about Ambrose, or for that matter Foster (only what I read), but Mustard has cut it with England, and is worth at least considering IMO.

In truth, I'm not convinced we've as yet had any input that allows us to seperate the candidates as glovemen: I'm pretty sure all four leading contenders are more competent than Prior (not hard)... and that Foster is more competent than most (again, not hard)... but I'm reserving judgement on whether any of them would bear comparison with Russell, let alone Piper or Taylor.

Other than that.... Ambrose is generally regarded as a genuine no 6 bat... Foster is almost univerally recognised as a technically very solid no 7... Mustard gets talked about as a ODI pinch hitter with a good enough eye to be quite destructive so long as his luck lasted... and Davies - well, at the very least he's got enough potential to develop into a decent Test no 7 with some serious coaching.

I don't quibble with any of that, although I think then Mustard has done well enough this year to get selected, I would have no real worries with Foster or Ambrose.

I know nothing about Davies - but if he only has potential when others have experience and potential, then I think he should for this year be out of the recking.

Mustard and Foster are the obvious candidates.
