My team is almost identical to Statto's with Kabir Ali (grudgingly) coming in for Swann who pyjama cricket aside I simply don't rate as a bowler and Onions for lack of better options (too early for Harris) getting the swing bowling berth. The players cast in stone for me are;
Horton
Denly
Shah
Bopara
Ambrose
Broad

Horton

Sales

Ambrose

Broad
Tremlett

That would be my team but it has about the same chance of being the final selection as Sri Lanka have of winning in Brisbane.

Of your XI... I'd say at least 8 are front-runners - and support for the other three is solid enough. That said.. I do find the arguments (and sides) being presented by engssmoothcriminal, statto and adamberry (though all different) more tempting...

Edit:

At this stage it seems pretty much certain that Shah, Bopara and Broad will be selected... almost certain that Horton, Denly and Swann will be selected... and highly probable that Tremlett will be selected. The wicket-keeping spot looks set to go to either Ambrose (favourite) or Foster (the only well supported alternative).

There's still scope for the above to change... but if your side doesn't include the above it's perhaps time to consider you preferred alternatives.

I am not sure there is much scope for change, your poll has come up with 11 players, even though a couple only have 2 votes each.

The problem is the keeper, with Ambrose and Foster with the same amount of votes, so i will change my vote and back Foster.

Edwards has no support, so Denly and Horten look cert's, Hildreth looks strong.

with Shah the same.

Bopara, Swann, Broad and Tremlett also look cert's.

So we need IMO another batsman and a seamer, any support for Sales and Ali?.

That's twelve players - so perm any one from the two keepers.

All we're looking for here are the automatic picks: folk who have the backing of at least half of us right from the start. The fact that a player gets limited votes here doesn't mean they lack support... merely that we're realistic enough to see their place as negotiable.

We're looking likely to sign off on the following as a core to the side:

Horton
Denly
Shah
?
Bopara
Ambrose / ?
? / Foster
Swann
Broad
Tremlett
?

If you read ALL of the threads... you can find support for quite a few permutations on that core group: I'd not rule out any of the 15 on this list just yet... though I don't (yet) see much of a push for any player outside of the 15.

I take it that Broad is being selected purely on potential as his CC performances last year were nothing to write home about.

Although i would have him in my team ahead of the probably more deserving Ali.

For the last bat / bowler slots we should look to get the balance of the team right.

He didn't play as many games as some of the others... but his return was excellent: 24 wickets at 25.08. Tremlett was the disappointment: he bowled twice as many overs and returned just 29 wickets at 33.96.

OK folks... I think we can sign off on the following:

Horton
Denly
Shah
Bopara
Ambrose / Foster
Swann
Broad
Tremlett

That leaves 3 vacant spots to fill: at least one batsman, at least one bowler and a.n.other - a place that will probably have to be decided in conjunction with the decision on the wicket-keeper.

I'll now start new threads to finalise the side....
