| Posting Copied Articles Hi all. If a member wishes to post an article, please can they make sure their work is original. We only accept original work, and not articles plagiarised from a copyrighted article such as those from Cricinfo. We would run into legal difficulty if we re-published those articles in part or in full - some recent articles have contravened this. Please only submit articles that are your work. Thanks Colly |

| Use of the terms "Cheat", "Cheating" etc. The owner and management of this messageboard have placed restrictions on the use of the terms "cheat", "cheating" etc. Since we aren't protected from legal action against us for libellous comments made by our members, potentially libellous comments will be removed. Therefore, we don't allow a player to be called a cheat unless he has either admitted it, or was found guilty and fined or suspended. The fact that the media may make these kinds of comments is irrelevant. They have a legal team to protect them, if necessary and we don't.

Luckily, Ernest was around and lodged a Trouble Ticket with our webhost who fixed the problem. Apologies for any inconvenience to you. Thankfully, the duration of the outage was not too long.

| Site Down 07 Feb 2005 Looks like the site may have been down for about three and a half hours this morning between 06:00 and and 09:30 GMT. I found this post on my webhost forum: Today, 14:29 Re: Any idea where my website has gone? Hi, We've experienced a number of issues this morning with both HSphere web servers, we believe this was an attempt to DoS the two web servers, which to some extent, as you can tell, was succesful. As a precaution we are now going through the servers, checking for anything out of place and checking all system software versions, or any patches that may have been missed - So if you find something isn't working for a short period, then that most likely means we are upgrading it. Thank you, KDA Web Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is DoS? Short for denial-of-service attack, a type of attack on a network that is designed to bring the network to its knees by flooding it with useless traffic. Many DoS attacks, such as the Ping of Death and Teardrop attacks, exploit limitations in the TCP/IP protocols. For all known DoS attacks, there are software fixes that system administrators can install to limit the damage caused by the attacks. But, like viruses, new DoS attacks are constantly being dreamed up by hackers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- KDA Web Services Data Centre is firewalled to limit downtime but the firewall itself may experience problems which could cause downtime. Sorry to those who were inconvenienced by this outage. This sort of thing is to be expected, though, no matter how good the security. The next time it happens, you can try running a trace route to our website which is hosted on wolverine.linux.uk.assimilatedservers.net. Start -> Run Type: command Click OK (DOS window opens) type: tracert www.world-a-team.com Enter

| Website down If you experienced difficulties logging on today, sorry for the inconvenience. This message from my web host may reveal the cause of the problem. Message from my web host: [2nd November 2004, 12:57] Connectivity Issues -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, As some of you will no doubt have noticed, we have just experienced a period of about 15-20 minutes of variable connectivity. This was caused by our main level switch, it appears it was getting stuck in a processing loop of some form and disrupting the connectivity. The equipment has now been reset and we are monitoring it for any further problems. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused. Thank you,

| Server down today Today at approx 18:00 our website server went down unexpectedly for a short period. Sorry to anyone who was inconvenienced. I found this post just now on my webhost's forum which they posted yesterday: [24th September 2004] Routine Maintenance "I must apologise for the short notice of this, which is entirely my fault for forgetting to make the post. During the afternoon/evening of 24th September we will be carrying out routine maintenance of equipment, such as checking to make sure all fans are working in servers etc. What this means is that there will be small periods, 2-5 minutes, of downtime for all servers - Which is well worth it, as if fans etc. aren't kept in good working order, it can mean extended periods of downtime."

| Legacy_postbit option As requested by Xaxerian, I have created a new style template which contains the old legacy_postbit style. You can see the legacy_postbit by loading any thread. To change styles locate the Quick Style Chooser at the bottom-left of any page. The default setting is Wide with green background. From the drop-down menu select the option called Grey/blue background - Legacy postbit. It will load automatically.

| Advertising and Spamming Occasionally new members join to post their own website URL on this board. Some will post their website link on multiple forums which is spamming. If you see this happening please report it. To combat this I have created a sub-forum of the Help and Feedback forum called Advertised Links. Non-members who wish to advertise their website will be directed to post there instead of joining and spamming the board with multiple posts. Once a URL appears in Advertised Links it will be added to the censored words list so that further attempts to post the same URL will be replaced with asterisks - eg www.********** I hope these measures will reduce the incidence of spamming in future.

| New hack - Get recent posts Hi, I have installed a new hack in response to those who like the "See Latest Messages" feature on the BBC board. 1. Open the Advanced Search form. 2. Select the forum/s to search in - the default is Search All Open Forums. 3. Select Show Results as Posts - the default is Show Results as Threads. 4. Choose an option in Find Posts From to get recent posts within the last week. 5. Leave Search by Key Word and Search by User Name fields blank. 6. Click Search Now - a list of posts will appear which contain part of the message. Part of the message will act as a link to open the thread and position the post on your screen.

| The server crashed yesterday (May 14) The site server went down yesterday (Friday) around 11:00 AM BST. It came back around 11:30 PM - some 12 hours later. A couple of reasons for the delay included a new hard drive was required but the spares were not quite the right size. The correct size had to be sourced and driven through London traffic to the server site - says it all! Then some file corruption had to be manually fixed. We can all breathe a huge sigh of relief now. Thanks everyone for your patience. I'm glad it's sorted as I fly out today (Saturday). Didn't want to leave it in a mess.
