Brendan Taylor banned for nine months

Quote:
Brendan Taylor has been banned for nine months following reports of indiscipline during Zimbabwe's recent A-team series against Pakistan.

Taylor was slapped with the ban after reportedly missing training twice without informing Kevin Curran, the coach, or giving a satisfactory explanation for his absence.
Tough one this. Now, do you; a) Take this approach and be aware that a talented lad like him may want to continue his career elsewhere, or b) Take the disciplinarian approach. I'm torn, actually, but still believe the penalty is harsh. Darren Berry, Victorian wicketkeeper, missed training once and was handed a one-match ban. Twice, I don't know. Harsh, very harsh however. I might add, I haven't any idea about the results of this series, yet the bad stuff gets out.

well here is the story from what i have read.

*taylor skipped training twice
*taylor kicked a duiker to death
*apparently took a prostitute to his hotel room in south africa

if any of this is true...he should have been dropped for 9 months or even longer

but the only cricket offence is skipping 2 matches - 9 months is quite a punishment. no?

From what I read, him and Simmons stayed up till 7am on the eve of a match...unreliable reports! I agree with butchering lee though in part; though the kicking of the duiker to death should've been punished. That's something you'd expect to see out of a 12 year old with A D D.

9 months for skipping 2 training sessions is reasonable.

zimbabwe to achieve need to play as a team. the team has to be one whole unit...any player who skips training de-stablises the team.

i can't disagree with the second part but i'd need to know the financial ramifications (and how the first skipped session was dealt with) before i could accept 9 months as reasonable.

isn't this water under the bridge anyway?
