Vermuelen asks board to reconsider contract decision

Quote:
Mark Vermeulen, the Zimbabwe batsman, has asked Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) to reconsider its decision not to offer him a national contract.

"I personally went to Ozias Bvute [the ZC managing director]. He [Bvute] told me that it was not up to him, but that he would take the necessary measures," Vermeulen said. "I still want to play. I was given no reason why I was not given a contract. I think I have done my best for Zimbabwe to make at least the performance-based list. I have the highest average in first-class cricket [40.04] and have more than 4000 first-class runs."
Hmm..of course Bvute will take necessary measures..He'll offer him more double match fees not to play!

Full story

Vermuelen deserves a national contract; no two ways about it.

Hasn't he had a really bad trot in the national team and got dropped. Also, weren't there question marks about his discipline, and didn't he get sent home from a tour of England once?

Yes he did, but Zimbabwean selectors care nothing for discipline. Another useless fact about Vermuelen; when playing for his school, Prince Edward, against St.George's in 1996, he received what he believed was a poor LBW decision. Nothing more than a shake of the head then trudging off you'd imagine? No. Mark Vermuelen decided that he'd belt the suitcase out of the stumps until all three were fully uprooted.

Agree with stone bird there, he has the best technique out of the batsmen, I've seen him play quite a few times. He has the potential to become Zimbabwe's best batsman, and as SB says, he is Mark Waugh-esque.

Yeah, he hasn't performed since he's had to shoulder more of the responsibility. Against England he was simply awful, and not much better against Sri Lanka either.

vermeulen was sent home from the english tour because he refused to get on the bus after he made 2 ducks in the test. this musn't have been the only issue, but if a player is that passionate and p.issed off with himself...it can only be good for zimbabwean cricket to have a "tough on himself" player.

mind you if all zimbabwean players didn't get on buses after poor performances...the bus could leave empty!
