another newboy

"""" Profile

A legspinner with no pretensions as a batsman, Tafadzwa Kamungozi made his debut for Masvingo in the 2005-06 Faithwear Cup where he was part of a quite dismal side who were woefully outclassed by mediocre opposition. The selectors, however, must have seen something not so obvious to others and he was picked for a Board XI against the touring Australian Academy where, like his team-mates, he came in for some brutal punishment. More than a few eyebrows were raised when he was picked as one of Zimbabwe's squad for the 2006 Champions Trophy.
Steven Price September 2006 """

in his defence - i think he took the only 2 wkts in the only ODI he played (actually utseya took 2 too - but for more runs in one less over) - the one where they were simply blasted away by boucher....he went for 70 odd though.

Being really honest I cannot see these guys progressing in the Champions Trophy. The two slots up contention are likely to be won by the West Indies, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh.

The fact that they seem to be finding more and more very average players, as they lose each of the good and best players, makes me sadder and sadder for Zimbabwe. Some of their Best XI would struggle to get a place in a club team anywhere else in the world, let alone a first class team.

The fact is that if we could find a Zimbabwe exile XI, it could actually compete on the world stage, it would be a huge amount better than the current cobbled together XI.

it's hard to know your judgement criteria - most of there "average" players have had far too few games to know (have you seen them?).

and the evidence is that most of the old lot are currently unemployed in the cricket world (let's not over-romanticise rubbish - streak and flower aside - we were always little more than average. now we're little more than teens with who knows what potential - never to be fulfilled)

well , you could find a second XI oz team which would perform better than most other first teams ... but what'd be the point in that? it would only be better for the individuals in question!!!
