| Farce is the word to describe it.If they are that bad then they shouldn't be in international cricket as they will just get pummelled every game. Perhaps dropping back to the lower level will benefit them in the long run as they might improve playing against similar standard players rather than being lambs to the slaughter. |

| it's an old, but i guess relevant, discussion: - i don't see how one improves playing against equal (but in fact, slightly lower) standards to one's own. if this sort of scoreline happens a few more times it wouldn't be a huge surprise if they were "demoted" in some way - tragic!! much better to integrate them into the SA set up (unlikely but plausable) or keep them going with "A" team tours till they start to fulfill what i think is a reasonable potential. in truth , i'm out of the loop but as it was the school system that was the blood line of national team - if that's collapsed (and i don't know the extent of its influence now) it would indeed be time to shut shop. don't know how i'd cope but....i personally think there is enough here to consider developing but if there's nothing after - what's the point? | Exactly right- the school system was, and to an extent STILL IS, the lifeblood of the national team. Guys got called up from St. John's, Peterhouse, St. George's and Churchill straight into the national team! It was big business. There is enought to keep building but so many guys leave Zimbabwe after school to continue studies abroad that it's almost unfeasible. |

Falcon could have got a mention - we're a bit sensitive in the south paoli - mind you have they got anyone from Falcon since nkala!? ...a shame when it used to be a steady supplier (whittals, streak, whishart? amoung others) then of course milton and plumtree gave us pommie/m'pariwa and olonga/duffin and had a fair standard of cricket - plumtree did anyway, we supplied a few colts, fawns etc but - even 15 odd years ago people chose studies over cricket, i guess all the more now. i last went to plumtree about 6 years ago and the cricket gear was embarrassing (i'd like to use a different word). fair enough, plumtree was at the lower end (financially) of a lot of cricketing schools but milton was worse off and if the likes of plumtree had deteriorated (i'm speaking purely in a cricketing sense) to that extent - what hope do non-private schools have? i was also thinking a bit about our coaching - i think people were getting it at home cos i don't remember once being told how to hold a ball, or what it would do if i held it a certain way - we just arrived at the nets where balls and pads were waiting. 10 of us bowled for 45 mins while 10 batted, then we swapped - 45 mins after that, showered and went about our business... well, i never aimed higher than the "B" team (as i've said before - they were the team which travelled more for some reason and any chance to get out of school grounds was better than the kudos of "A" team) and i guess it's possible the "A" team were being groomed for better things! | ZIM vs SL not too bad in the field...typical bad batting (despite a mini-stand between taylor and masakadza which will soon come to an end no doubt...here's hoping tho'). i don't get why the hell they're trying rinke in the openning spot again - he's proved unable, at least for now, to cope with decent use (pace in particular) of the new ball... |
