Apolitical zim side

ok we've done this here a few times but as cricinfo have decided to do it this week let me comment :

Cricinfo - Look what you're missing

Here is my issue - as it's almost a wonder whose "general view" he refers to, almost.

""We also did consider the current XI but the general view was that none of them would be able to make this side, although some players would come close. ""

apart from the fact that his descriptions of some of the others are just fanciful and purely nostalgic - i loved those guys when they played but...

""proven talent as a wicket-taking"" ""The loss is Zimbabwe's. ""- we must remember these guys were also proven failures and simply not test standard, as my comparison months ago revealed. Most of the current XI have/had - at the time of my comparison - as good or better averages as this apolitical team at the same stages in their careers (i did it a long time ago but even then the support for the current XI was minimal while the old lot never really had their places threatened and were much freer to develop their talent).

Luckily, i really don't care like i used to - but if this apolitical team mentioned here is what i used to care about - i really have to wonder, why?

i guess the answer is - partly because i love cricket (i still do and i still keep a half eye on zim), partly it was a connection to home when i was feeling utterly lost in Europe and partly, if not mainly, because olonga, mbangwa, watambwa, madondo were encouraging signs of where zim may be headed. It never arrived. Zim cricket was political before zanu got a hold of it which is what, i'm afraid, i'll always remember that when i see this kind of article. Elsetimes - i despair at the farce that are out "leaders".
